China Power Investment to build wind power plant in Liaoning

Sep. 1, 2008 (China Knowledge) - China Power Investment Corp (CPI), one of the Top 5 power companies in China, announced on Friday it will build the largest wind power plant in Liaoning province with a total investment of RMB 2.8 billion.

The Tuoshan Wind Power Plant, located in Dalian and covering an area of 62 square kilometers, is designed to have an installed capacity of 300,000 kilowatts and an annual power output of more than 700 million kWh.

The first phase of the project will involved an investment of RMB 530 million. 33 wind power generators will be installed with a combined capacity of 49,500 kilowatts. The power plant is expected to start generating electricity from December 2009.

Currently, Liaoning ranks the third among all Chinese provinces in terms of installed capacity of wind power.

Last year, China's capacity of wind power rose to 605 million kilowatts from 1.26 million kilowatts in 2005 and that is expected to exceed 10 million kilowatts by the end of this year.

As of the end of 2007, the total assets of China Power Investment Corp amounted to RMB 221.227 billion and it has 169 member companies and institutions and 15 participating companies in 25 provinces and areas.
